Emergency Dental Services in the Greater Toronto Area
What is a Dental Emergency?
Our team is ready to help your child in the case of a dental emergency during our hours of operation.
Not sure if your child is having a dental emergency? Here are some of the common dental issues that should be seen by our dentists right away. Give one of our clinics a call, and we’ll book an appointment as soon as possible.
If your child is in severe pain, having trouble breathing, or experiencing swelling or bleeding, please head to the nearest emergency hospital right away.

Lost Fillings or Crowns
If your child loses a dental crown or filling, do your best to remain calm. First, give us a call. We will get your child in as soon as possible to fix the damage.
Take a look inside your child's mouth to see if they have any swelling or if there's additional damage to the tooth. If they’re in pain, avoid letting them eat on that side.
If you find the lost filling or crown, keep it in a clean container. The dentist can sometimes reattach it. Have your child rinse their mouth with warm salt water to help keep the area clean and reduce the risk of infection.
If necessary, you can use over-the-counter dental wax or temporary dental cement to protect the exposed tooth until you see the dentist.
-
Chipped or Broken Teeth
If your child chips or breaks a tooth, do your best to save the broken-off piece and place it in milk or saline solution to bring with you to the dentist. There's a chance it can be reattached.
Next, call us to book an appointment for your child. In the meantime, examine your child's mouth. If there’s bleeding, apply gentle pressure with a clean cloth or gauze. A cold compress on the outside of the cheek can help reduce swelling. Additionally, have your child rinse their mouth with warm salt water to clean the area and remove any debris.

Knocked-Out Teeth
If your child gets a tooth knocked out, stay calm and act quickly. For a baby tooth, do not try to reinsert it. Instead, give us a call to determine the next steps.
For a permanent tooth, gently rinse it with water (do not scrub), and try to place it back in the socket if possible. If that’s not an option, store the tooth in a container of milk and get to a dentist immediately.
Time is critical. Seeing a dentist within 30 minutes gives the best chance of saving the tooth.
-
Swelling, Pain or Discomfort
If your child is experiencing swelling, pain, or discomfort, it’s important to keep an eye on their symptoms and keep the area clean by gently rinsing their mouth with warm salt water.
You can give them age-appropriate pain relief if needed, but avoid putting aspirin directly on the gums. Be sure to contact us right away to have the problem evaluated and treated before it gets worse. If the swelling is severe or your child has trouble breathing or swallowing, seek emergency medical care right away.

Object Stuck in Teeth
If there is something stuck in between your child’s teeth, gently use dental floss to remove it. If the object cannot be removed with floss, contact us as soon as possible. Never use a sharp plastic or metal object to remove it.
